DOLE 8 conducts successful regional service caravan

Tacloban City (November 28) -- The Department of Labor and Employment in Region 8 conducted today, a successful Regional Service Caravan participated in by the eight agencies comprising the DOLE family in Eastern Visayas.

Director Forter Puguon of the Department of Labor and Employment in the Region said that the Regional Service Caravan which was conducted at the DOLE Region 8 Compound, is in line with the agency's 75th Anniversary celebration on December 8, 2008.

The Regional Service Caravan started with a motorcade and was followed by the Opening Program which was attended by Presidential Assistant for Eastern Visayas, Hon. Cynthia Nierras. Also in attendance were 2nd District of Leyte Congresswoman Trinidad Apostol who is also the president of the Region 8 Congressmen, Bd. Member Malou Go-Soco representing Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla, Ms. Viring Valenzuela representing Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, Director Luisa Reyes of the National Reintegration Center for OFWs, PIA 8 Director Olive Tiu and several mayors from the Samar Island Provinces.

After the Opening Program, Director Puguon and the guests opened the DOLE RCC Exhibits, Advisory and Assistance Desks at the Second Floor of the DOLE Regional Office; the ABS CBN Jobs Fair at the Ground Floor of the DOLE Office; and the Livelihood/Diskwento Fair at the DOLE Compound.

An Orientation on the Reintegration of Overseas Filipino Workers was also conducted with no less than Director Luisa Reyes of the National Reintegration Center for OFWs as guest and resource person.

Also a component of the Regional Service Caravan is the Jobs Fair which will lessen the unemployment rate of the Region, pursuant to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's thrust for employment generation. The Jobs Fair was participated by 17 local employers.

As part of the Regional Service Caravan, a Media Forum was conducted at 1:00 o'clock in the morning, to give the local press an opportunity to interact with the DOLE family. The forum aimed to recognize the vital partnership of media in the implementation of DOLE's programs particularly its new program on the national reintegration of Overseas Filipino Workers.

The strong support from the partners in the tri media has played a vital role in DOLE's effort to bring closer to the clients the different programs in labor and employment, Director Puguon said.

Other activities include the advocacy on the Reintegration Program for OFWs, their Families and PESO Managers at the DOLE Training Center; PESOMAEV Last Quarter Meeting; and Advocacy on Elimination of Violence Against Women in support of the 18 day campaign to eliminate violence against women at the DOLE Training Center.

The DOLE Service Caravans aim to raise public awareness on DOLE's 75 years of existence not only as a single government organization but as family of attached agencies closely cooperating to deliver programs and services crucial to national development particularly the upliftment of Filipino workers.
