Davao City (29 November) -- A group of Mindanao artists recently joined the Mindanao Peace and Development Exhibit held at the SM City-Davao Event Center last Nov. 27-28.
Creative Factory displayed the mixed media artworks of talented artists Jun Cayas, Anton Cadayona III, Boboy Buenaventura, Doreel Paul Chan and Drei Boquiren. Aside from their art pieces, one highlight of their exhibit was the interactive art panel in which visitors are encouraged to paint their own peace messages on the canvass.
Also on display is a Balanghai Kalinaw installation art done by the collaborative efforts of the Creative Factory members for the Mindanao Economic and Development Council (MEDCO). Tracing the historic significance of the sea-going vessel that transported the early Malay settlers to the islands in pre-Hispanic times, the Balanghai art piece aims to promote the peace initiatives of the various groups and organizations in Mindanao.
According to film and video artist Drei Boquiren and a member of the Creative Factory, the Balanghai Kalinaw installation art symbolizes a vessel of peace and hope as it travels across the rough seas towards a bright, peaceful and united Mindanao.
Creative Factory is a Davao-based art organization with the empowerment of the Mindanao artists as its main advocacy. Its core members are noted multimedia Davao artists namely Rey Bollozos, Drei Boquiren, Buboy Buenaventura, Anton Cadayona III, Jun Cayas and Gigs Respecia.
The group believes in the innate creative potentials of the Mindanao artist and on art as a catalyst in social change especially in the achievement of peace and development in the island.
The Mindanao Peace and Development Exhibit is one of the major activities of the Mindanao Week of Peace 2008, it is organized by the MEDCO together with the Mindanao Peace and Development Convergence Group. (PIA) [top]
