KFRG abducts 9-year old girl in Basilan
Cotabato City (29 November) -- While Marine soldiers continue their pursuit operations to rescue a kidnap victim being held captive by the abductors, an innocent girl becomes the latest victim of abduction by suspected Abu Sayyaf members.
Basilan police chief Sr. Supt Salik Macapantar identified the victim as 9-year old April Nicole Tejada Raviche, a grade three pupil, who was forcibly taken by armed men suspected to be members of the Abu Sayaff group in front of the family-owned restaurant along Flores Street, Barangay Malakas, Basilan, last Wednesday night.
The victim's parents are said to be prominent traders in the area.
Navy spokesperson Lt. Col. Edgar Arevalo said, the kidnappers took advantage of the situation while the Marine soldiers are continuously conducting pursuit operations to rescue victim abducted earlier.
Earlier, President Macapagal Arroyo, alarmed by the reported rise in kidnapping cases in Mindanao particularly in Basilan, Tawi-Tawi, Sulu and some parts of Zamboanga City, has ordered the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) to strengthen and intensify pursuit operations against kidnap-for-ransom groups, through close coordination with the local government units.
