Comelec, VMUF to hold 1st off-site registration of new voters north of Luzon
San Carlos City, Pangasinan (4 February) -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in coordination with Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation (VMUF) will conduct the first ever off-site registration of new voters of this city on February 9 to 11 at the school premises as part of the University's 51st foundation anniversary celebration activities.
The Comelec said that qualified Filipino registrants who are eligible to register must be at least 18 years old of age; a resident of the Philippines for at least one year and in the place wherein he proposes to vote for at least six months on or before the day of the election; and not otherwise disqualified by law.
Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Reddy Balarbar encouraged new voters especially students and professionals to take advantage of the opportunity.
Qualified voters will be registered using the Data Capturing Machine (DCM).
Meantime, the Comelec in coordination with VMUF thru Commissioner Nicodemo T. Ferrer, will conduct a convocation-seminar on Election Information and Voters' Education campaign on Friday, February 6, 2009 starting at 8 a.m. at the university premises.
Commissioner Ferrer said resource speaker Director James Arthur Jimenez of the Election and Information Department is expected to tackle on issues and concerns on the plans, programs and the thrust of the Comelec. The venue will be at the Social Hall of the VM Centrum Building, Martin P. Posadas Avenue of this city.
The convocation-seminar is in accordance with a memorandum issued by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo directing all Commission on Higher Education regional directors, presidents and heads of private and public higher education institutions to undertake election information and voters' education campaign in coordination with the Comelec.
