Province of Camarines Sur (4 February) -- Congressman Diosdado "Dato" Arroyo of Camarines Sur I District distributed cash checks for the allowance of 115 scholars and turned-over 15 units of desktop computers to Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) extension campus in Ragay town during his sorties here Friday, January 30.

Arroyo said "quality education is one of my top priorities that I can impart to my constituents especially to poor students in my district who deserve education assistance and scholarship."

Similar programs on improving the educational system, giving utmost priority to the public schools especially in far-flung areas, providing them the essential and necessary facilities and quality educators are also being pursued by the solon.

Arroyo encouraged those who will be graduating from high school to avail of the different scholarship programs of the province and is looking forward to more scholarship opportunities by 2009 under the "Skolar ni Dato Education Program".

To ensure that the scholarship grants will benefit the poor and deserving students he asked that proper documents be prepared, reminding that applicants will be screened by concerned agencies.

School administrators and teachers, according to Arroyo, will also be provided with training programs on computer operations and applications, in addition to in-service training which is in any sort is manifold especially in improving the quality of instruction.

"Computer training enables the teachers to cope with modern technology which they can apply in drafting, encoding reports, evaluation, revisions and even rebirth in today's instructional program coping with the kind of highly technological educational system," he noted.

He also said "when equipped with the basis computer knowledge, teachers and administrators can work easier, can prepare clean and impressive printed reports, and compute grades."
