ARMM leadership welcomes EO 777

Koronadal City (4 February) -- "Any move of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to bring peace in Mindanao is a welcome development," Executive Secretary Oscar Sampulna said.

In reaction to Executive Order 777 issued by the President, Sampulna said, ARMM Regional Governor Zaldy Ampatuan remains committed and supportive to the initiative of President Arroyo for the resumption of the government peace talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation.

Sampulna said, EO 777 creates a body to help promulgate possible amendments to the ARMM Organic Act.

"We welcome this as a positive development and it's about time that we introduce new things to our autonomous act and make it adaptable the present situation especially in our quest and search for peace," he said.

Although they not yet received a copy of EO 777, Sampulna said, the autonomous government is ready and prepared to support directives of the President.

With the inclusion of Regional Government Ampatuan as a member of the GRP panel, the regional government is more than willing to extend its utmost support to the peace initiative of Pres. Arroyo because time and again, Governor Ampatuan has emphasized his administration's commitment to achieve peace in Mindanao, he stressed.

The President issued EO 777 creating the National Preparatory Committee that aims to amend RA 9034 or Organic Act of the ARMM which shall serve as a Term of Reference for the GRP-MILF peace talks. (PBC/PIA Cot City) [top]
