Thousands of tourists, visitors attend 2009 Kannawidan Ylocos Fest

Vigan City (February 5) -- Thousand visitors, devotees and residents from the provinces in Ilocos Region and Cordillera crowded the surroundings of the capitol to attend the exciting events of the 2nd Kannawidan Ylocos Festival, it was reported.
The festival started last January 28 and ended on February 4.
According to Ilocos Sur Governor Deogracias Victor "DV" B. Savellano told that the celebration of this year's 2nd Kannawidan Festival was very different comparing last year considering that many provinces in Northern Luzon participated the trade fair.
The Kannawidan Ylocos Festival - an Iluko term means feast of all heritages, practices and products in Ilocos Sur, ultimately aim to showcase and promote old costumes, traditions, cultures and products in the province to further strengthen its demand which eventually increase income as well as generate more job opportunities.
The festival was realized to commemorate the creation of Ilocos Sur as a province on February 2, 1818 and to establish the identity of the province in terms of feasts like the Sinulog Festival in Cebu, the Panagbenga Festival in Baguio City and among others.
Among the events of this year's Kannawidan Ylocos Festival were the procession of the images of the 26 miraculous patrons' saints of the province; trade fair for the "Partuat ken Patanor;" the Tourism Travel Mart, job fair, exhibition of vintage equipment and native Art's contest; Senior Citizen's Fun Run, mobile passporting, Fashion show, Piano Concert and Marching Band Competition; Horse racing contest and the search for Saniata ti Ilocos Sur; showcasing of indigenous musical instrument and Zarzuela presentation; and the awarding of outstanding Ilocos Surians.
