by Venus G. Villanueva

Kalibo, Aklan (6 February) -- The total number of Aklanons covered by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation has reached 102,392 as of 2008.

This figure was revealed by Aklan Governor Carlito Marquez when he delivered his State of the Province Address recently at the SP Session Hall here.

The governor said the provincial government is continuing the implementation of the universal coverage program with Philhealth in line with the province's health care services.

"Congressman Florencio T. Miraflores and I have each allocated P5 million for a total of P10 million. Under this category, we have more than 26,000 beneficiaries while in the LGU-sponsored program with provincial counterpart, we have more than 29,000 beneficiaries," Governor Marquez said.

The total number of Philhealth-covered Aklanons include individually-paying members, government and private employees, non-paying members and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). (PIA) [top]
