DSWD's "Salamat Po Award" honors stakeholders

Legazpi City (12 February) -- On the occasion of its 58th Anniversary, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) honors stakeholders during the Salamat Po Award held at the DSWD conference room last February 2.
With the theme, DSWD Mabilis, Mahusay … Nagkakaisang Tunay! The Salamat Po Award is conducted to recognize different stakeholders who have given support and contribution to the implementation of the DSWD's programs and projects. Specifically, the award was given to Local Government Units implementing the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS: KKB) and the PODER Bicol Rehabilitation Project.
KALAHI-CIDSS:KKB is the national anti-poverty program of the [resent administration, which has to date, benefited 782,468 households from 3,398 barangays nationwide; and PODER or the Poder y Prosperidad de la Comunidad-Bicol Rehabilitation Project is a grant subsidy from the Spanish government through the Agencia Española de Cooperacion International para el Desarollo (AECID) for rehabilitation projects in the province of Albay. Each municipality has an allocation of P7.8 million.
This year's awardees for LGU-KALAHI CIDSS are Hon. Roberto Briones of Sangay, Hon. Jaime Delena from Presentacion, Hon. Nonito Vier of Siruma, Hon. Leovegildo Basmayor of Minalabac, Hon. Asuncion Arceño of Pasacao, Hon. Nena Borja of Balatan, Hon. Bayani Veluz of Del Gallego, all in the province of Camarines Sur and Hon. Dominador Mendoza of Sta. Elena, Camarines Norte. In the province of Sorsogon, the awardees are Hon. Dennis Sy Reyes of Pilar, Hon. Ma. Theresa Fragata of Juban and Hon. Odillon Pascua from Bagamanoc, Catanduanes.
The awardees for LGU-PODER Bicol Rehabilitation Project in Albay are: Hon. Noel E. Rosal from Legazpi City, Hon. Herminio Bitara from Malilipot, Hon. Krisel Lagman-Luistro from Tabaco City, Hon. Jaime Villanueva of Tiwi, Hon. Avelino Ceriola from Malinao, Hon. Celso de los Angeles from Sto. Domingo and Hon. Gloria Berango from the municipality of Bacacay.
DSWD OIC-Assistant Regional Director Elizabeth Molaer said that the awardees exemplify hard work and support to KALAHI-CIDSS thru pursuing Community-Driven Development (CDD) process which in turn helped the DSWD to achieve the goal of attaining better quality of life for the community.
The occasion was also held to pay tribute to different partners from the radio, television and print who continue to help us in disseminating project's accomplishments. The media serve as our vital link to our program beneficiaries who have tapped into their ability to provide immediate action and bridge information gaps, as well. The media personnel were instrumental on the successful conduct of KALAHI-CIDSS media tour in the municipalities of Pilar in Sorsogon and Minalabac in Camarines Sur last November 27, 2008 and October 29, 2008.
This year's awardees are: Ms. Amalia Villafuerte, Area Head of ABS-CBN Regional Network Group Bicol; DWBS; Albay Journal; The Bicol Chronicle-Legazpi City; Dyaryo Bicol-Legazpi City; Bikol Reporter-Naga City; The Bicol Regional Weekly Digest-Legazpi; Bikol Mail-Naga City; DZGB and DZRC Legazpi.
Hon. Noel E. Rosal in his closing message thanked the DSWD for the recognition and encourages all the LGUs "to continue the support for the DSWD's programs and projects and fast-track implementation of the PODER-Bicol Rehabilitation Project which is expected to complete construction of the community projects this April."
