Lamut, Ifugao (14 February) -- The Provincial Government here is consistently advocating micro enterprises as an effective tool for increasing economic output by launching the "Kapihan Ad Haggiyo Enterprise Center" here on February 18.
According to Felipe Lacbawan, Consultant on Marketing of the Haggiyo Enterprise Development Program (HEDP), the activity will signal the full operation of a one stop shop for entrepreneurial activities of the province where all the products from the 11 municipalities here will be displayed.
Lacbawan disclosed that the coffee shop will be the vehicle to bring in customers coming in from within and outside the province. "As they sip coffee they are given the chance to see our various enterprise products which are mostly the One Town One Product of each municipality," he said.
The provincial government believes that this will encourage municipal officials to support private entrepreneurs by providing necessary tools such as pro-active livelihood ordinances; credit facilities; equipment needed and trade and promotions. These are viewed as the means in fostering the private sectors' contributions to both the growth and equity objectives of livelihood and enterprise program, he said.
Lacbawan said that poverty is becoming alarming and the greatest contributory factor today is the worldwide economic crisis. He noted that there are noticeable trends such as increase in the number of poor families especially among rural young couples resulting to breakdown of families; decline in employment opportunities and increase in rural differentials in terms of income and labor force.
