Ifugao Provincial government assists RIC

Kiangan, Ifugao (14 February) -- In an effort to uplift the socio-economic conditions of the members and the marginalized farming groups, the Provincial government here allotted P50,000.00 to the Baguinge Rural Homemakers Association-Alabama RIC here.
Dubbed as Capital Fund for Cluster RIC (Rural Improvement Club) Projects, this is a roll over fund of the Provincial Government which will be used in purchasing necessary processing machinery or equipment to make production easier, faster and produce greater volume to meet the demand of the consuming public.
Nazario Tuguinay of the Provincial Agriculture Office said that the RIC is engaged in an on-going project on root crop processing for 46 women of Barangay Baguinge here.
Tuguinay said that the project will provide continuous employment and livelihood activities to the members and marginalized farming groups if it is fully operational. The project which creates self-employment and increase the income of the association within a year of its full operation while it enhance and develop the skills and capabilities of members in processing, packaging and marketing of processed products.
Awarded as the Most Outstanding RIC for two consecutive years from 2003-2004 at the provincial level and recognized as the entry to National Gawad Saka in 2005, the said RIC is producing root crops which is processed into flour then food product such as polvoron, cookies, tarts, pastilles, macaroons, cakes pies and others.
The RIC which is composed of farm household women, intends to produce other food products from fruits in season and vegetables. Tuguinay said that the members aim to provide value added, safe and nutritious products for home consumption and local markets that will eventually improve their household incomes and the community.
