ICT cluster joins Calagan Festival 2009
Butuan City (16 February) -- Business owners, academic institutions and other so-called industry players of the information and communication technology (ICT) will be holding a one-day conference during the week-long celebration of the 14th founding anniversary of the Caraga region.
he gathering dubbed as the 1st Caraga ICT Congress and spearheaded by the ICT Cluster of Caraga will be held on February 18, 2009 at the Almont Inland Resort Hotel, this city.
The congress which aims to discuss industry issues and trends has for its theme: "Caraga, Collaborate, Connect".
Joining hands to mount this event are the officials of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators (PSITE) and Institute of Electronics and Communications Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP), academe, internet café operators, and institutions in the field of communications, including non-government organizations in the region.
Major industry players have been invited to discuss the industry's situationer, potentials, opportunities and our bid to being globally competitive in terms of skills and manpower capabilities. Their presence and that of the other ICT cluster stakeholders will help ensure that the activity will also become a venue for networking, marketing, and business development and creation among ICT players.
With the grown and development of the ICT in Caraga, the Regional Development Council (RDC), through RDC Resolution No. 18, series of 2007 added it as one of the priority clusters in the region. The other priority industry clusters include abaca, seaweeds, banana, oil palm, coconut, high value crops, tourism, processed food, mining, arts and crafts, wood, and moringa.
The industry clustering strategy was adopted by the RDC as one of the strategies to boost the economic development of the region some four years ago. It encourages collaboration among key players of an industry to serve a bigger market. (DTI-13/PIA-Caraga) [top]
