PGMA pushes improvement of Digos-Cotabato road
Koronadal City (20 February) -- The improvement of the 84-kilometer road from Digos City to Cotabato province will be prioritized by the Department of Public Works and Highways as ordered by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo herself during the inspection of the Malaang bridge in Makilala, North Cotabato yesterday.
DPWH undersecretary Romeo Momo disclosed that as the President has ordered the immediate bidding of the approaches of the said bridge, she is also looking forward to the improvement of the Digos-Cotabato road, a vital road network connecting Davao del Sur and Cotabato province where transport of volumes of products is going on a daily basis.
Momo said the Digos-Cotabato road is part of the National Road Improvement Program II of the World Bank which will release P1.4 billion to support the construction of the project. Tatlong package ito, Momo added.
Momo refused to give a time line on the start of the construction of the project as it is dependent on the World Bank, he said.
The DPWH official hopes that the implementation of the said road project will be a big boost to the emergency employment program of the government where DPWH is expected to generate 500,000 jobs. (PIA 12) [top]
