Bacolod City conducts IEC on SWM
Bacolod City (23 February) -- The local government of Bacolod has been conducting an Information and Education Campaign on Solid Waste Management with particular emphasis on waste segregation.
The past week, more than 700 barangay and purok leaders from 61 barangays in this city attended the information and education campaign being conducted by the Solid Waste Management Board at the New Government Center.
Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia stressed the importance of the barangay and purok leaders in the dissemination of information to the members of their respective communities.
The city is set to implement the "no segregation, no collection" policy beginning April 1, 2009.
Leonardia added that waste segregation will reduce the city's garbage to a considerable amount. The policy is a manifestation of the city's commitment to fully implement Republic Act 9003 of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act.
The mayor also urged those who missed the IEC last week to attend the IECs to be conducted by the city.
A series of meetings is also set for members of the media, mall and restaurant owners, teachers, hospital owners, homeowners associations and other various civic groups in the city. (CMO/PIA/EAD) [top]
