Maasin City (24 February) -- In an effort to boost moral ascendancy in governance, no less than the religious group here spearheads the one-day Good Governance orientation among the local officials and employees throughout the province last Wednesday.
Deputy Ombudsman Pelagio Apostol of Visayas Ombudsman, the only resource speaker, warned the elected public officials and employees to avoid entering into biddings, supplying the materials and getting into the contracts of government projects.
He encouraged the people to be vigilant instead on the implementation of government projects since the funding came from the pockets of the people in form of taxes paid. He also warned the group that their office will accommodate anonymous letters of any complaints on the misconduct among the government officials and employees.
He also assured to the group that he will put in place a resident ombudsman in the province to assist the local officials and employees instead of traveling in order to avail the services of the office which is based in Cebu City.
He said that among the services of the Ombudsman Visayas were the clearance issuances needed by those retiring from government services which would soon be facilitated by the resident ombudsman right in the province.
That the resident ombudsman will be appointed by the following sectors namely the non-government organizations, government organizations and elected officials, he added.
Initiated by the Out Lady of Assumption Parish (OLAP), the orientation was conducted at Cathedral Convention Center in Maasin City. (PIA) [top]
