DSWD joins Arts Month celebration

Zamboanga City (27 February) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development joins in the celebration of the National Arts Month for the whole month of February nationwide with the theme "Ani ng Sining".

The National Arts Month Philippine International Arts Festival 2009 (NAM PIAF 2009) is a yearly celebration spearheaded by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 683 issued in 1991, highlighting the artistic genius of Filipinos through the years that gave Filipinos an identity generating pride of habitat, history, language, customs and traditions.

"National pride is a very important factor that would contribute immensely towards the development of a people. One way to generate and increase this pride is by knowing the things that we can be proud of, and one of those is the art and culture that has given the Filipinos a very unique identity. The DSWD, being one of the agencies in strong support of uplifting the Filipino way of life, is celebrating the Arts Month, along with other stakeholders, with the purpose of informing and entertaining the public, as well as empowering the Filipinos' creativity, which we hope could inspire them to rise above themselves," said DSWD 9 Regional Director Teodulo R. Romo, Jr.

One of the events in accordance to this year's theme is the "Ani ng Sining sa Iba't Ibang Sangay ng Pamahalaan". This event aims to bring cultural programs to the different branches of government, and to inform and entertain government employees about the culture and the arts. The NCCA brought the NAM PIAF 2009 celebrations to the DSWD Central Office several activities were held such as a photo exhibit, a film showing of two short films and a cultural program which was held last February 23, 2009.

The month-long activities have been lined up to promote the culture and arts among the Filipinos, which are highlighted as instruments for empowering the Filipino creativity and imagination.

eanwhile, the theme "Ani ng Sining" refers to a harvest of artistic expressions manifested in every locality that will underscore an appreciation of the country's wealth of historical experience, its freedom heritage and the promotion of human rights and peace. (DSWD/PIA ZC) [top]
