Catbalogan City (March 17) -- Four truck loads of candidate soldiers coming from the 8th Infantry Division (8ID), Philippine Army were deployed in a cleanliness drive to clean the drainage canals and the surroundings of the Samar Provincial Hospital.
In a brief program that initiated the activity, Commanding General Arthur Tabaquero of the 8th ID said that the clean up drive was in anticipation of the rainy days.
It was also part of their activity for the 112th anniversary of the Philippine Army. Moreover the activity was also aimed at strengthening the civil military relationship.
He also equated the unity and cooperation among the military and their civilian friends to a bunch of broomstick moving in one direction.
He said this is one task of the army in much the same way as combat and providing security.
Meanwhile, Dr. Rodulf Mabulay thanked the military for the so called humanitarian activity.
Michael Tan gubernatorial son and representative of Gov. Milagrosa Tan also thanked the army for their volunteer work.
The soldiers usually with fire arms are now using broomstick in their unusual mission. Barangay officials from Barangay 7 of downtown Catbalogan also joined the activity. (PIA-Samar) [top]
