Antiqueños avail of poverty alleviation programs, jobs abroad during Kalayaan Day
San Jose, Antique (15 June) -- "This year's observance of Independence Day did not only remind us of bravery and heroism of our forefathers but also underscores the government programs towards alleviation from poverty and ignorance," said Governor Salvacion Z. Perez during the program.
In celebration of 111th Philippine Independence Day, Governor Salvacion Perez emphasized the government initiatives in providing employment and livelihood opportunities to poor families and displaced workers.
The Department of Labor and Employment has released the amount of P2,340,720.00 to the towns of Valderrama, San Remigio, Sibalom, Tibiao and Barbaza for livelihood formation program while the town of Laua-an got P400,000.00 for small fisherfolks under the Integrated Services for Livelihood Advancement (ISLA). DOLE Provincial Director Laura Villarico and Governor Salvacion Z. Perez released the check to the Municipal Mayors of the said towns.
More than 200 Antiqueño scholars were given educational certificate by Technical Educational Skills Development Authority as a scholarship grant to deserving students under the Pangulong Gloria Scholarship program. The scholars will be given national certificate after they pass the assessment which will also be issued by TESDA which can be used for employment here and abroad, said Marlyn Aguilar, TESDA Provincial Director.
The highlights of the celebration was a Jobs Fair where hundreds of Antiqueños gathered at the Binirayan Gymnasium to apply for work abroad. Eleven international placement agencies were on hand to accept job applicants. In support to the need of the jobs' fair applicants to work abroad, the Department of Foreign Affairs conducted a Mobile Passporting services at the same venue.
Aside from providing jobs and livelihood, this year's Independence Day also featured the distribution of employment certificate to 232 Deputized Barangay Gubat of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. These Bantay Gubat team will help forest guards in the protection and conservation of our forest areas and natural resources which are vital in the mitigation of climate change and global warming.
