Nueva Vizcaya New Year revelry kills 5, injures 6

Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya (January 6) -- Five persons were killed and six others were injured in road accidents and firecracker-related incidents in various towns in the province as the year 2009 closed in the country.

Police said the fatalities were Joel Cajimat, 37, a tricycle driver; his wife Hilda, 35; his daughter Catrina, 16 ; his niece Beverly, 16 and Zenia Datu. Injured were Eduardo Datu,Jr., 36; Sandra Datu, 4; Angel Datu, 9; Jonathan Vergara, 35 and Reynaldo Agustin, 15.

The Cajimat family who hails from barangay Macate in Bambang town were killed in December 24 when their Honda TMX 155 tricycle with plate number PNR BM 7653 collided with a Fuso forward truck driven by Jerry Baculi, 40 and owned by Herminia Anguluan of barangay Don Domingo in Tuguegarao City.

Police report said the truck bumped and dragged the tricycle while plying the national highway before midnight, causing the tricycle passengers' serious injuries.

On the other hand, the Datu family and Jonathan Vergara, all of Sta. Cruz, Manila were on board their Toyota Corolla with plate number TFX 336 when it bumped a concrete wall at 5:30 a.m. while travelling along the national highway in barangay Poblacion in Diadi town in December 31.

Agustin was the lone victim of firecracker explosion in the province, based on the police report.

It said Agustin, 15 of barangay Bliss Concepcion in Solano town sustained injuries on his right hand when a firecracker which he picked along the road exploded. Five of the victim's right hand was cut and brought to the Veterans Regional Hospital for medical treatment.

Police Senior Supt. Pedro Danguilan, police provincial director said the report on firecracker-related injuries may increase as it did not include patients directly treated by national and local health agencies and centers. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
