Over 5,000 girl scouts to participate in 2010 Cagayan provincial encampment

Tuguegarao City (7 January) -- Over 5,000 girl scouts and adult leaders are expected to participate in the 2010 provincial encampment to be held at Camp Amparito in nearby Iguig town on January 27-31 this year.

The girl scout-participants coming from the various public and private secondary and elementary schools in Cagayan will be exposed to outdoor and indoor activities that will prepare them to a more responsible life in the future, thus, useful citizens.

Council President Fely Lattao, who is also the acting schools division superintendent of Tuguegarao City, said this year's provincial encampment is "Girls worldwide say: Together we can change the world".

Among the activities to be undertaken during the four-day encampment include: field mass, opening ceremonies, lectures on adolescent female health program particularly on peer education, tree planting, sports activities, campfire, outdoor challenges at some tourist attractions and a number of choice activities like food and hand arts, music and dance arts and others.

On the other hand, Helena Tungcul, council executive, said Cagayan Gov. Alvaro T. Antonio is expected to address the participants as guest of honor and speaker during the opening ceremonies.

She said officials at the GSP national headquarters were likewise invited to grace the activities during the encampment.

This year's provincial encampment will be hosted by the local government unit of Alcala led by Mayor Teresita I. Antonio. (PSL) [top]
