Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya (January 13) -- The Land Transportation Office (LTO) here is offering options for vehicle owners to avail of the Radio Frequency Indentification(RFID) scheme or wait for the decision of the Supreme Court.
This came as the Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a Temporary Restraining Order(TRO) on the wake of a petition questioningthe legality and constitutionality of the system.
The petition was filed by Bayan Muna and its allied party-list groups Anakpawis and Gabriela and the transport group Piston.
"We just received advise yesterday so our stand is ... we are leaving vehicle owners options to choose from. First, if they are in a hurry, they can pay the RFID or they can choose to pay after the issuance of a clear order from our central office with corresponding surcharges and penalties," Claro Labitoria, LTO district chief here said.
As of this date, Labitoria said they have processed the RFID applications of at least 320 motor vehicles since January 4 at 54 units a day.
He also expressed optimism that RFID implementation in the province will be complied with by vehicle owners based on their stand on the legal issue.
"We just hope for a clearer guidelines as soon as possible but right now, we have a stand to follow so please bear with us," Labitoria stressed. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
