No mayor, congressman can oust 'pantawid' beneficiaries, says DSWD
Dipolog City (13 January) -- A team leader overseeing the implementation of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has reiterated that no mayor, congressman, governor or any political leader can remove anybody from the roll of beneficiaries of the program.
Nestor Ramos, head of DSWD here, said any member can only be stripped of his privileges if he failed to meet the conditions set by the program such as non-compliance with the regular health checkup of children and preschoolers, failure of a pregnant mother to undergo prenatal checkup, and when one or more children in a family has/have dropped out of school.
The DSWD, however, said that an investigation would first be conducted by the grievance committee before stripping the beneficiary of his financial assistance.
The DSWD issued this clarification following reports that there were local leaders who had threatened some beneficiaries if "they do not give in to their demands."
"We do not, however, forbid any member to attend political rallies because that is his right," Ramos stressed.
The 4Ps has been designed by the Arroyo government to help the poor families all over the country cope with their daily living. (PF/PIA-ZN) [top]
