NPAs attack community workers, deny link with Rebolusyonaryong Hukbong Bayan

By Major Glenn A. dela Rosa

Camp Lukban, Catbalogan, Samar (14 January) -- The New Peoples Army operating in Eastern Visayas is desperate to catch attention with the looming national and local elections in the horizons by attacking the members of the engineering battalion doing community works in Barangay Binanggaran, Calbiga, Samar last 17 December 2009 killing two workers in the process.

This inhuman act clearly manifests that the NPA do not want rural folks to avail of basic services which in this case, school building which is desperately needed for the education of the community children in the community.

The terrorists also are trying to stop the influx of deceived members in availing the amnesty program of the government through its Social Integration Program by blatantly denying its link with the Rebolusyonaryong Hukbong Bayan (RHB) where one of its disgruntled members recently surrendered with firearm and ammunition to the government.

Such lies only confirms the reality in the underground movement, "useful only while active."

Major General Arthur I Tabaquero, Commander of 8ID, PA, although saddened by the incident, ordered his troops especially the community workers to continue doing their share for the people of Eastern Visayas even at the extent of paying the ultimate price.

He also encouraged those who are still with the underground movement to avail of the amnesty program of the government and return to the mainstream of society. (PIA) [top]
