Lagawe, Ifugao (16 January) -- The province is intensifying its anti-rabies campaign in the different municipalities to avert the occurrence of rabies related cases.
Mr. Gilbert Caclini of the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) stated that massive vaccination of dogs is currently conducted in the different municipalities of the province with the help of the Municipal Agriculture Office.
Caclini reiterated that out of the 4,500 target last year, there were 3,531 dogs vaccinated in the province due to the limited supply of vaccines and lack of cooperation of dog owners.
"During the house to house vaccination that we have conducted province wide last year, some dog owners were not around in their respective homes so we did not inject their dogs," he lamented.
Based on PVO records, there were 200 dog bites in 2009 mostly in the municipality of Lagawe.
Caclini also explained that aside of the vaccination activity, massive information drive is being conducted in the different schools of the province to create awareness among the populace regarding rabies and its effect to human being.
He further urged local officials to strengthen the implementation of dog ordinance in their respective places. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
