Southern Leyte Comelec sets training, demonstration on automated machines starting next month
By Bong Pedalino
Maasin City (16 January) -- Beginning next month, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office will be in the thick of preparatory training using an actual machine for all those involved in the conduct of the first-ever computerized elections in the country.
And the first ones to be lined up for the series of training are the Election officers themselves, to be held from February 18 to 27, in a venue to be decided later, said Reuel Junio, Election Assistant at the provincial Comelec.
For the entire month of March, from March 1 to 30, will be the schedule for the teachers, especially members of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) who are slated to serve in various barangay precincts all over the province on election day, Junio said.
He assured that a Precinct Count Optical Machine (PCOS), the real machine to be used in the elections, will also be available during the entire training process.
He said another set of training has been slated for the whole province, from March 8 to 13, although details for this one and the others are still being worked out by their office.
Asked if members of the local media can be given a chance to witness or see a demonstration on how the PCOS will work and operate, Junio this can be accommodated in the March 8 to 13 schedule.
Still, he gave no further details as the training plans are still under consideration. (PIA-Southern Leyte) [top]
