PGMA honors senior, cadet girl scouts

Manila (22 January) -- A total of 340 senior and cadet girl scouts will be feted by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo tomorrow at the Chief Girl Scout presentation ceremonies at the Rizal Hall of Malacaņang.

The event will be highlighted by a powerpoint presentation on the Chief Girl Scout Medal Scheme.

The President will then award medals, pins and certificates, assisted by Dr. Salud Bagalso, national president, Susan Locsin, first national vice president; and Maria Dolores Santiago, national executive director; of the Girl Scouts.

Each year, hundreds of senior and cadet girl scouts take the opportunity to serve their communities through the Chief Girl Scout Medal Scheme, thereby developing their leadership capabilities, perseverance and sense of responsibility.

The medal scheme highlights the Girl Scout role in community development as exemplified by the Chief Girl Scout and her distinguished leadership and vital contribution to nation building.

Under the GSP Charter, Executive Order 267, the woman President of the Philippines or the First Lady shall be the Chief Girl Scouts of the Philippines.

Since 1977, a total of 5,119 senior and cadet girl scouts have been awarded the Chief Girl Scout Medal as a symbol of their service to their fellowmen in areas of health, ecology, livelihood and cultural heritage.

Those awarded with medals are now successful as community leaders, practicing doctors, nurses, engineers, teachers, businesswomen, lawyers or heads of companies and organizations.

Of the 340 to be awarded, 118 are from Northern Luzon, 47 from Central Luzon, 85 from Southern Luzon, 45 from the Visayas, 25 from Eastern Mindanao, and 20 from Western Mindanao. (PIA) [top]
