DPWH Ifugao disburses P4M for CLEEP

Lagawe, Ifugao (23 January) -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) here disbursed P4,024,944 under its Comprehensive Livelihood Employment Program (CLEEP).

Engr. Elihimicon Lorenzana, Maintenance engineer of the DPWH here said that the amount was used for salaries of laborers from January December 2009. He said a total of 258 laborers were employed last year, of which nine belonged to the 18-24 age group while 249 were 25 years old and above.

The laborers helped in maintaining the roads from Lamut to Banaue; Banaue Hungduan; Banaue-Mayoyao Alfonso Lista Paracelis. He said that one laborer maintained three kilometers of the road side where he is a resident.

Lorenzana said the program will be implemented again this year. "This is in line with the poverty alleviation program of President Gloria Arroyo," he said.

Henry Ponhalban of Tulaed Mayoyao, one of the hired laborers said that he is grateful to the government for employing him. "This is a big help to my family especially so that I don't have any job," he said.

On the otherhand, David Buccahi of Viewpoint, Banaue and Danny Beligan of Alfonso Lista said that their salaries were used to buy needs of their families such as food. We hope that we will be hired again so we have something to bring home for our children, we thank the government for this," they said. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
