by Mhars B. Lihgawon

Lamut, Ifugao (23 January) -- The local legislators here enacted a law prescribing minimum standards of incentives for Barangay Nutrition Scholars(BNS) and Barangay Health Workers (BHWS).

The ordinance is known as Lamut Community Health Workers Incentive Ordinance. It aims for effective and efficient delivery of health services in the grassroot level. This ordinance shall cover the incentives to be provided to BNS and BWHS by the Barangay Local Government Units (BLGUs) and the Municipal Local Government Units (MLGU).

The ordinance states that the incentives shall include the monthly honorarium, per diems, health insurance and other incentives that may be granted to them to be prioritized in the annual budget of the BLGUs and MLGUs.

Each appointed BNS and BHWs in the different barangays will receive P600 and a P1,000 pesos as monthly honorariums respectively including health insurances under Philhealth.

The BLGUs shall provide in their annual budgets sufficient allocations to cover the health insurance premiums and a travel allowance of P1,000 per year of each BNS and BHW.

To ensure the success implementation of this ordinance, the Barangay Development Councils, Sangguniang barangay and the Municipal Budget Office in coordination with the Municipal Action Officer (MNAO) and Municipal Health Office (MHO) shall ensure the minimum standards of incentives as prescribed herein are complied with and provided for in the annual budgets of the MLGU and the BLGUs.
