Itogon grants tax relief to business establishments

by SC Aro

La Trinidad, Benguet (23 January) -- Business establishments in the town of Itogon will be granted tax relief of their penalties of business taxes starting this month.

The Sangguniang Bayan enacted an ordinance granting tax relief of their penalties of business taxes from January to December 2010 because they were greatly affected by the past typhoons

As can be recalled, Itogon was one of the hardest hit municipalities of the province destroying lives and properties and left some families homeless.

As per review of the Provincial Board, Municipal Ordinance No. 44, series 2009 was approved on final reading last week on the premise that it is within the authority of the local sanggunian to enact based on the provisions of Republic Act 7160 otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991.

Based on RA 7160, the local sanggunian through an ordinance could grant tax exemption, tax incentives or tax relief to all business similarly situated, in cases of natural calamities, civil disturbance, general failure of crops, or adverse economic conditions in the locality such as substantial decrease in the prices of agricultural or agri-based products as indicated in Article 282, Part 11, Rule of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the LGC.
