DPWH completes 32 infra projects in Palawan

Puerto Princesa City (26 January) -- The Department of Public Works and Highways Third Engineering District completed thirty-two (32) infrastructure projects with a total amount of P16.25 million in 2009. Most of the infrastructures were carry-over projects from 2008 accomplished by 10 contractors.

The projects with the biggest amount accomplished were the construction of the P3.9 million 4-classroom building in Don Ramon Roces Memorial Elementary School in Bgy. Bagong Sikat; the concreting of Fernandez Street at P1.5 millilon; and the construction of the P1.5 million Multipurpose building of Bgy. Model.

Other projects completed include construction/repair of classrooms/schoolbuilding, construction of flood control and drainage system in Bgy. Masipag, construction of water system in Bgy. Sta. Lucia, and road improvement. Almost 60 percent of the projects completed involved barangay multi-purpose building/centers.

Apart from the infrastructure projects, the DPWH-3rd Engineering District conducted its Roadside Maintenance Project with a P7 million fund from the Motor Vehicle User Charge (MVUC). A total of 82 persons were hired to maintain roadside clearing & grass cutting along the 193.6 kilometers of the national highway.

The District office also held two job fairs to accommodate displaced workers in the city under the Comprehensive Livelihood Emergency Employment Program of CLEEP in which 13 workers were absorbed by the District Office and 16 were hired by private construction companies. (PIA) [top]
