DepEd Palawan conducts PEP supplemental milk feeding

Puerto Princesa City (26 January) -- The Department of Education will launch tomorrow in Tigman Public Elementary School the "Pasiglahin Estudyanteng Pinoy" (PEP), the supplemental feeding program for school children grades 1-2.

PEP aims to contribute to the decrease in the drop-out rate of school children in grades 1 to grades 2 through a supplementary feeding program and improving nutritional status in the process. The program shall run for 120 days covering 30 identified undernourished students.

The identified undernourished students shall be given 1 cup of Sustagen milk per day for 120 days. The mothers of the undernourished children are also involved in the project and they shall attend mother's classes where nutritious food preparation and values orientation will be provided.

The project is being implemented in 5 schools in Palawan located in Roxas south, Aborlan, Bataraza and El Nido.

Project partners of "Pasiglahin Estudyanteng Pinoy" Supplemental Feeding Program include the National Competitive Council, the Dept. of Education, and the Kabisig ng Kalahi. (PIA) [top]
