PGMA to inspect Agno dike repairs tomorrow

Dagupan City (26 January) -- President Macapagal-Arroyo is set to inspect tomorrow, Wednesday the ongoing repair of breached dikes along the major river tributaries in Pangasinan.

Scheduled to arrive at around 2 p.m. at Carmen-Tumana West in Rosales town, the President will personally see for herself the completed repair of the four breached sections in the area. The project costs P10.2 million.

Engr. Roy Manao, newly-assigned project director of the Agno River Flood Control System, said the cost of repair of all breached sections runs to some P70 million.

"Halos lahat kumpleto na," he said in an interview. There were 12 dike sections of the river tributaries of Agno, Bued, Banila and Dipalo destroyed by the massive floods spawned by typhoon Pepeng last October. "Mga dalawa o tatlong section lang ang tinatapos," he added.

Scheduled to take a whirlwind visit to the Ilocos Region, the President will first inspect projects in the Ilocos provinces and La Union before she will proceed to her mother's home province.

The other breached sections are located in Tumana East, also in Rosales, Artacho in Sison, Sto. Domingo in Sto. Tomas, Lipay and Puelay in Villasis, Bacnono in Bayambang, Don Montano in Umingan, Casantamarian and Bantog in San Quintin and Caramutan, also in Villasis.

The funds are charged to the P12 billion emergency fund, Manao said. (PIA Pangasinan) [top]
