Samar chamber of commerce needs 'big brother'

By Ninfa B Quirante

Catbalogan City (26 January) -- Samar Chamber of Commerce Incorporated (SCCI) needed a 'big brother' like Cebu Chamber of Commerce (CCCI) to achieve its full potential.

This was affirmed with the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between SCCI and CCCI today at the DTI, Catbalogan, Samar.

Samar media covered the event and details were aired live through Rommel Rutor anchor of Bantay Probinsya as he interviewed the leading personalities.

According to the MOA entered into by the SCCI and Working for the Enhancement of the Chamber and Association Network in the Visayas and Caraga (WE CAN Visayas and Caraga), the partners commit themselves to cooperate on a partnership basis to improve the business environment for small and medium, sized enterprise (SME) development in the partnership region and sectors in the Visayas and Caraga region.

The duo is financially supported by the BMZ (acronym taken from German) from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development through the Foundation for Economic Development and Vocational Training.

The partnership also aims to network and exchange and learn good practices from each other.

In an interview with Dr. Stephen Kunz, a German national in charge of the project, he said that the MOA is good for one year but they also will check on the sustainability of the project.

Kunz said that Negros Chamber has been relatively successful in this endeavour while Cebu Chamber, being there for some 97 years will act as 'big brother' to the others.

Samar CCI is headed by Dr Dominador Cabanganan who himself admitted needs a big boost from 'big brother'.

Cabanganan expressed hopes that the new partnership will usher the needed boost.

The male president is enthusiastic that if the SCCI succeeds, so will the SMEs and the masses will truly benefit and enjoy the fruits of the partnership.

The partners acknowledge the support of DTI ?Samar that offered a free space in the office to ensure that the partnership commences without hitches. (PIA-Samar) [top]
