Pagasa's gale advisory warns small seacrafts in East Visayas
Tacloban City (1 February) -- Fishing boats and other small sea crafts are warned from venturing out into the sea today. Larger sea vessels, on the other hand, are alerted against big waves.
The warning from the National Disaster Coordinating Council and the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council of Eastern Visayas, was issued as the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration has issued Gale Warning Number 4 at 5:00 o'clock in the morning of February 1.
Gale Warning No. 4 is for strong winds associated with the Northeast Monsoon. Strong to gale force wind is expected to affect the seaboards of Eastern Visayas and Mindanao.
The weather today is partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. The wind force is estimated at 55 to 68 kilometers per hour with 30 to 36 knots.
The sea condition will be rough to very rough with waves at 3.7 to 5 meters high.
The RDCC 8 Operations Center has already informed the local government units located at the seaboard of Eastern Visayas to inform their respective fishermen and small sea crafts about the warning.
The deputized barangay chairpersons in the concerned coastal barangays have also been informed through SMS.
The RDCC 8 called on the public to heed the warning and help disseminate the information to the fishermen and the concerned seacraft operators. (PIA 8) [top]
