RDC committee tackles East Visayas social development issues
Tacloban City (February 1) -- The Social Development Committee of the Regional Development Council for Eastern Visayas continues to tackle issues concerning education and manpower development, health and nutrition and the social welfare and development and the housing sub-sectors as it conducted its first quarter meeting on January 29, 2010 at the RDC Conference Room.
DOLE Regional Director Forter G. Puguon, Chairman of the Committee, who presided over the meeting, said that the issues in the sub-sectors were tackled in the planning workshop where activities and programs for the year 2010 were identified.
Aside from the planning workshop, the Committee reviewed the SDC resolution "Requesting DBM to reconsider claims for reimbursement by SUCs on the Basis of Section 434 of the 1991 Local Government Code."
The said resolution will be endorsed to the Regional Development Council for approval, Director Puguon explained.
A power point presentation was also made by Committee Chairman, Director Puguon on the proposed project to establish a data base on the Current Labor Demand in the Region, one of the items approved during the morning workshop for inclusion in the SDC Work and Financial Plan.
The Social Development Committee is one of the four Sectoral Committees of the Regional Development Committee or RDC, the highest policy making body on all economic and social development efforts in the region which is currently chaired by Mayor Mel Senen Sarmiento of Calbayog City.
The Committee has more than 38 regular members composed of several government line agencies which includes the DepEd, DILG, DOH, DOLE, DSWD, CHED, & DOST, Regional Branches of the Government agencies, Provincial and City governments, and private sector representatives.
The other Sectoral Committees of the RDC are the Infrastructure Development Committee, the Economic Development Committee, and the Development Administration Committee.
The SDC First Quarter Meeting came ahead of the First Quarter RDC Meeting scheduled on February 12, 2010, with an RDC Planning Workshop set earlier on February 5, 2010 at the NEDA Conference Room in Palo, Leyte. (PIA 8) [top]
