Koronadal City (1 February) -- The Center for Health Development (CHD) XII presented a situational report of AH1N1 which disclosed that there are quite a few cases of AH1N1 in the region in 2009
Health Emergency Staff (HEMS) Coordinator Leo Chiong said there were "few cases of H1N1 and Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) cases in Region XII."
Chiong explained that 25 or 0.2% cases of AH1N1 were laboratory confirmed and 13 of these cases were females. Ages of the victims ranged from seven to forty-six years old. Of the 13, nine were from North Cotabato, eight from Cotabato City, six from South Cotabato, and only one (1) case each in Saranggani and Sultan Kudarat.
He also reported that 12,466 cases of influenza were reported in Region XII last year. Theire ages ranged from eight to ninety-eight years old; of them, 52% were male. These cases were from Sultan Kudarat (28%), North Cotabato (26%), and South Cotabato (22%), he pointed out.
He said CHD XII established procedures for H1N1 prevention through public health interventions such as organizing a regional cluster on H1N1; ongoing monitoring on hospitals; putting up facilities and manpower from the city and the provinces, IEC campaign which includes the "Hugas-Kamay campaign" and giving out vaccines only for health workers.
CHD XII recommends a healthy way of life to the public by being responsive to sanitary measures and taking vitamins or supplements that would prolong a strong immune system to prevent H1N1 virus and any viruses from getting into the body, Chiong added.
Currently, CHD XII, according to the Health Emergency Staff Coordinator, will keep on monitoring such instances and will give an update to the public if ever cases will find this year. (PIA 12) [top]
