Region 8 produces 3rd, 10th placers in latest nursing board exams

Tacloban City (February 2) -- Among the top ten placers in the November 2009 licensure examination for nurses are from Region 8.

They are Dickson Arasa Laude of Talolora, Samar who garnered the 3rd place with an average of 87; and Mary Kristine Teraza Labanta of Dulag, Leyte. Both are graduates of St. Scholastica's College-Tacloban.

The result of the latest Nursing Board Exams is indicative of the kind of nursing schools there are in Region 8. It was learned that all the nursing schools reached by the Philippine Information Agency, all did well in the last nursing board exams.

The passing rate of St. Scholastica's is 96+%, according to the college dean, Dr. Antonio Lim who expressed happiness that for the first time, the ten-year old nursing school at last has produced topnotchers.

Dean Cora Gasco of the Remedios Trinidad Romualdez Medical Foundation College of Nursing disclosed that of the 243 takers from said school, 236 passed giving a passing rate of 97.12%.

This performance is better than that of last year when of the total 180 takers, 171 passed, achieving a passing rate of 94.7%, Dean Gasco said.

"This is already a big honor to our school, as only seven did not make it," Dean Gasco added.

Dean Gasco informed that RTRMF College of Nursing is number 8 in national standing as best performing nursing schools.

Meanwhile, Professor Zenaida Varona, college secretary of the UP School of Health Sciences which pioneered the ladderized medical education, informed that four scholars took the exams and all of them passed, giving a 100% passing percentage.

Those who passed were Ralph Bueno of Biliran; Karen Villanueva of Masbate; Yvonne Obiso of Cebu and Mary Ann Adonis of MacArthur, Leyte.

Furthermore, Colegio de Sta. Lourdes, Inc. situated in Tabon-Tabon, Leyte had a passing rate of 86.57%.

Administrative Staff Jennifer Malinao informed that there were 67 takers, 63 of who are first timers while the 4 are retakers. The total number of board passers is board passers is 58, 56 of who are first timers and two are retakers. (PIA 8) [top]
