CAPELCO strengthens partnership with mediamen

by A. Lumaque

Roxas City (2 February) -- The Capiz Electric Cooperative (CAPELCO) has conducted a fellowship night with local tri-media practitioners last Jan. 29 here to renew and strengthen its partnership with mediamen towards effective and efficient public service.

The activity was attended by the cooperative?s top officials and employees as well as local tri-media practitioners led by National Union of Journalist of the Philippines (NUJP) ? Capiz Chapter President John Heredia and Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) ? Capiz Chairman Ely Abarra.

Heredia produces and hosts a community antenna television (CATV) blocktime program "Abri-aga" while Abarra is RMN ? Roxas Station Manager.

CAPELCO Board of Director and lawyer Margarita Oquendo said that the activity was designed to thank mediamen for their continued partnership and support to the cooperative.

The fellowship, which has been institutionalized by the CAPELCO as a yearly event to open up communications between CAPELCO and media, was highlighted by a sing-along contest between CAPELCO employees and media group.

For his part, CAPELCO General Manager Engr. Edgar Diaz has again sought the support of the local tri-media practitioners in its commitment to improve delivery of services to member-consumers.

The cooperative, which has attained complete energization of all barangays in the province since March 2005, has opened its 5 Mega Volts Ampere (MVA) substation and area office in Mambusao, Capiz last June 2009.

The achievement is in line with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's rural electrification program to speed up the development in the countryside as stipulated in her Ten-Point Agenda which mandated the electric cooperatives to provide reliable and quality electric service to the community.
