PGMA goes on cyber tour; visits Bacolod City
Bacolod City (2 February) -- President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is embarking on a cyber corridor tour and is making a stop at Teleperformance-Bacolod.
Negros Occidental, with Bacolod City as its capital, now has seven Business Process Outsourcing centers is part of the Cyber Corridor of the Philippines.
The Cyber Corridor tour is being done by the President in identified areas in the country which have higher level of Information Communication Technology or ICT.
Among the identified cyber corridor cities are Pampanga, Metro Bulacan, Central Bulacan, Mero Manila, Metro Cavite, Metro Laguna, Lipa, Iloilo, Metro Cebu, Davao, Cagayan de Oro and Bacolod.
In last year?s SONA, the President considered the BPO with the tourism industry as additional engines of growth with earnings of $6-billion thus prompted for the creation of Department of ICT.
In 2000, only 2,400 call center employees are employed and has since ballooned to 500,000 BPO-ICT employees including the 280,000 call center employees in 2009.
With this, the Philippines was named the 2009 Offshoring Destination of the Year.
The President will have a tour of the facilities at Teleperfomance-Bacolod before joining the different BPO-ICT stakeholders for a briefing on information technology development in Negros Occidental. (PIA/EAD) [top]
