PGMA SONA project in Samar to be completed in April, DPWH says
Tacloban City (February 3) -- The Malaga-Calbayog Section of the Daang Maharlika in Samar is set to be completed by April of 2010, Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Victor A. Domingo disclosed.
Secretary Domingo together with DPWH Undersecretary Rafael C.Yabut and Assistant Secretary Ferdinand Cui Jr, of the Presidential Management Staff were in the Region recently, to inspect the progress of works for the project, which is part of the President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo administration?s SONA Projects.
It involves the asphalt paving of about 9.624 kilometer road and is expected to be completed by April 2010.
During the said inspection, DPWH Secretary Domingo checked with the representative of Pacific Concrete Products Inc., contractor of the on-going rehabilitation project along Daang Maharlika Road, Malaga -Calbayog Section in Western Samar, the capability of its batching plant to supply the required materials for the contracted project. The conduct of inspection at contractor?s batching plant is in line with the DPWH effort to ensure immediate completion of the project especially as it is among the priority SONA Project of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo administration.
DPWH Undersecretary Rafael C. Yabut who is in-charge of Visayas operations, disclosed that the contractor adopted the cement treated base method in the on-going rehabilitation of the Malaga-Calbayog Section of Daang Maharlika in Western Samar to ensure road carriageway strength prior to asphalt overlay.
The project includes the improvement and widening of existing road by re-blocking and combinations of crack and seat method, patching and sealing of cracks and asphalt concrete overlay; replacement of one bridge and repair and rehabilitation of 4 bridges; and construction of drainage and slope protection works.
