PGMA graces Manila Bulletin's 110th anniversary celebration
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo attended Manila Bulletin's 110th anniversary celebration last Tuesday, February 2, 2010.
She arrived at 6 p.m. and was welcomed by Don Emilio Yap, Manila Bulletin chairman, at the entrance of the paper's headquarters in Intramuros, Manila.
After shaking hands and gamely posing for pictures with well-wishers, the President, with her entourage, then proceeded to the main editorial office on the second floor where she had dinner with the paper's editors and staff.
After dinner, the President and Yap went up to the penthouse on the fifth floor where close to five hundred guests were having a party.
In an interview after the event, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said the President regarded the visit as an opportunity to present her case to those who communicate the news to the people.
"It is not everyday that she gets to tell her story, to talk about what she is doing or has done," Ermita said.
The President, he observed, has given the country 36 quarters of uninterrupted growth, created nine million jobs, and extended healthcare benefits to 53 million Filipinos, among other things.
He added all this was accomplished by instilling fiscal discipline and by investing in human and physical infrastructure. (PIA) [top]
