Latin beat highlights Musikahan
City of Tagum (5 February) -- Barangay Musikahan kicked off last January 21, 2010, as a pre-festival event of the Musikahan sa Tagum Festival. Barangay Musikahan is keenly being participated by the constituents of participating barangays in the city.
"Filipino goes Latino" is the theme for this year's Barangay Musikahan, as participants of the event are expected to showcase the transition and fusion of the Filipino and Latin culture through their music.
Contest pieces portrayed musically inclined presentations.
Partaking barangays were required to submit their proposed and final concept for their contest to avoid duplication of presentation.
Festive colors, bedazzling dance moves, captivating song lyrics and hypnotic beats filled the contest pieces of the 11 participating barangays. Barangay Pagsabangan, San Agustin, Canocotan, Liboganon, Pandapan, San Isidro, Bincungan had presented their contest piece for the Rural Barangay Category and Barangay Visayan Village, Magdum, Madaum and Magugpo South for the Urban Barangay Category.
Remaining barangays will present their contest piece as follows: February 3 ? Brgy. New Balamban; February 5 ? Brgy. Magugpo West; February 6 ? Brgy. San Miguel ; February 8 ? Brgy. Apokon ; February 9 ? Brgy. La Filipina; February 10 ? Brgy. Magugpo East February 12 ? Brgy. Cuambogan; February 13 ? Brgy. Busaon; February 15 ? Brgy. Mankilam; and February 16 ? Brgy. Nueva Fuerza.
Prizes at stake for the Barangay Musikahan for each category are Php. 30,000.00 cash and Php. 500,000.00 worth of projects of the first place winner, Php. 20,000.00 cash and Php. 300,000.00 worth of projects for the second place winner, and Php. 15,000.00 cash and
200,000.00 worth of projects for the third place winner.
Announcement for the top 3 finalist for each category will be done on the opening of the Musikahan sa Tagum Festival 2010, on February 19 at the Open Arena of the New City Hall. Participating barangays are subsidized by the city government with Php. 20,000.00 each as seed money for production mounting. (Tourism & CIO of Tagum City) [top]
