Baguio City (6 February) -- The Office of the Senior Citizens Affair (OSCA) in coordination with the City government of Baguio and the Commission on Election (COMELEC-CAR) is set to conduct a social awareness and advocacy-orientation seminar on automated voting system for elderly people on February 9 at the Baguio Convention Center.
The seminar is part of the OSCA's project called "Love your country, think right and vote right". This is also in line with the information campaign of COMELEC about the new automated voting system for the upcoming May 10, 2010 election.
The OSCA in partnership with the Baguio Elderly Assembly (BEA), which is composed of six senior citizens associations in Baguio namely BARP Foundation, Philippine Government Retired Employees Association (PGREA), Veterans Federation of the Philippines – CAR/Baguio District and the Federation of Baguio Senior Citizens Associations (FBASECA), US Armed Forces of the Philippines – Northern Luzon, have conceptualized this activity to educate and acknowledge the contribution of the Senior Citizens in Nation Building particularly in responsible voting.
The said seminar aims to orient the senior citizen on the new automated voting system, to increase awareness on the new election process, to provide technical assistance and to encourage senior citizen of Baguio to vote responsibly and wisely towards nation building.
OSCA head Engr. Leopoldo S. Escano looks forward to learning something about the automated poll that will be conducted in the whole country for the first time. Being an elderly, baka sayang ang boto naming if we don't know what to do," he said.
Mayor Reinaldo A. Bautista has been invited to give a message to the expected 500 senior citizens who will be participating in this project. (PIA) [top]
