4ID, PA completes P183.45-M Kalayaan barangay projects in AOR

by Rutchie Cabahug-Aguhob

Cagayan de Oro City (8 February) -- Some P183.15M worth of Kalayaan Barangay Projects (KBP) have been completed within the area of responsibility (AOR) of the 4th Infantry Division, Philippine Army (4ID, PA), as of February, this year.

Thus disclosed Brig. Gen. Mario F. Chan, Commanding General of 4ID, who talked about the theme "Working with the People for Peace, Towards a Progressive Future and Sustainable Development in Mindanao!" during its 40th anniversary celebration in Camp Evangelista, this city, recently.

Implemented by the 52nd Engineering Brigade, PA, in barangays that have been liberated from the control of the New People's Army (NPA), these projects have been turned over to the beneficiary communities:

Seventeen (17) units of school buildings worth P12M, 16 units of Health Center, P7.7M, six (6) units of Day Care Center, P3M, some 135.367 km. of roads, P125.204M, water system development, P25.696M and electrification of 9.5 km., P9.55M.

Meanwhile, Chan has thanked the men and women of 4ID for the gains of their internal security operations (ISO) since he assumed office as Division Commander that resulted in the discovery of 49 communist terrorist (CT) camps, the capture of five (5) top CT leaders and the surrender of 240 of their members.

It also resulted in the recovery of 123 high-powered and 160 low-powered firearms, 67 enemies wounded, 13 enemies captured, 107 enemies killed and the discovery 2.0 hectares of marijuana plantation which they uprooted and destroyed.

"And while we grieve at the loss of brothers and sisters who have gone astray to follow their beliefs and their ideological inclination, we also cherish the fact that the support of the people and the participation of the local government units and government line agencies have significantly reduced the degree and level of violence that usually characterize counter-insurgency operations," Chan said.
