PIA Press Release

Feature: DSWD braces for better 4Ps implementation in Misamis Occidental

by Recthie B. Tolinero

Cagayan de Oro City (8 February) -- THREE thousand one hundred forty three (3,143) beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in Bonifacio, Misamis Occidental currently enjoy the advantages of the program especially on education and health.

With this number, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) field office in region 10 conducted several trainings and workshops to improve the implementation in the area.

There were also systems initiated by the department to foster immediate effects of the program and among these are the Compliance Verification, Updates and Grievance Redress systems.

According to Dioscoro Cerbito, Municipal Link of Bonifacio, the beneficiaries in the area strictly comply with the program's conditions and they monitor such practice through handling barangay assemblies every now and then.

Presently, there are 120 parent groups clustered in the municipality and these groups are monitored and facilitated by one (1) municipal link and five (5) LGU links.

Given the report on the frequency and schedules of the sessions, Atty. Araceli F. Solamillo, DSWD 10 Regional Director, wanted to ensure that the sessions will be properly handled by enforcing Cerbito to submit an intensive report on the topics conducted and the qualifications of the LGU links who will handle such materials to the beneficiaries.

Furthermore, Atty. Solamillo instructed the municipal link during the program review and evaluation workshop to regularly check the attendees in every family session to make sure that the beneficiaries comply with the conditions as well as to determine the problems that arose and may occur in the duration of the program implementation.

With regard to building a cooperative among the beneficiaries in Bonifacio, Atty. Solamillo stressed that any LGU initiatives on sustaining the program's benefits will undergo proper processes. Any practices and procedures that do not coincide with the goals of the program will be suspended.

Monthly, the municipal link is tasked to conduct a Municipal Action Committee meeting which will provide the avenue for the partner agencies to raise their concerns especially on monitoring and promoting better program execution.

As of December 30 2009, DSWD has already released a total of P26 million worth of conditional cash grants to 3,143 household beneficiaries in Bonifacio.

The 4Ps is a flagship program of the government that aims to reduce poverty by providing cash grants to extremely poor households. With the conditions set, the program envisions an improved health, nutrition and education among these households. (DSWD X) [top]
