Councilors move to create Bacolod El Niņo Task Force
Bacolod City (8 February) -- City Councilors Alex Paglomutan and Roberto Rojas recently called on the city government to create an El Niņo Phenomenon ask Force to mitigate the effects of the weather phenomenon associated with extreme heat.
In a resolution passed, the document seeks to form a task force that will compose of the agriculture office and non-government organizations working with the city.
It also urges the City Agriculturist Lawyer Goldwyn Nifras to coordinate with the Department of Agriculture -Region 6 on the plan to create the task force.
Both believe in the urgency of the matter and to strengthen the agriculture office so that it is ready to meet destructive effects of El Niņo.
In response to the call of planters in the province of Negros Occ. Gov. Isidro Zayco directed the Office of he Provincial Agriculturist to execute the plan for a cloud seeding.
Already, nine cloud seeding operations have been conducted using Cessna plane in an effort to reduce damage to crops, especially sugarcane and palay.
OPA is now also reaching out to farmers in the remote barangays of the province to assist them in their plight and if available, provide assistance. (PIA-LOL) [top]
