Manila (9 February) -- The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has urged local government units and concerned agencies to join in observing the National Awareness Week for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation.
DILG Secretary Ronaldo V. Puno in a memorandum circular dated January 22, 2010, cited Proclamation No. 731 series of 1996, declaring the 2nd week of February of every year as awareness week to prevent child sexual abuse.
Falling on the week dated February 08 to February 14, this year's national observance on such concern focuses on the advocacy of Preventive Safety Lessons.
Puno said that the annual observance "seeks to help make our communities as safe haven for children."
He encouraged local government chief executives to spearhead and support the observance of such concern by undertaking activities and projects such as hanging of streamer, announcing the awareness week during flag ceremonies, conducting lecture series/ skills training relative to the protection of children from sexual abuse and exploitation, media blitz, among others.
Puno is directing DILG regional directors and field offices to widely disseminate information regarding the observance of awareness week on child sexual abuse. (PIA XI) [top]
