by PS Mabaquiao

San Jose, Antique (9 February) -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue ? Antique vows to implement tax collection measures vigorously to help government achieve its goal in tax collection.

Atty. Glen A. Geraldino, Regional Director BIR Region 6 in a press conference held at BIR Antique Provincial Office recently assured the taxpayers that BIR is doing its best to collect taxes and revenues due to government.

"We urged the public to be vigilant and help government propel to progress. We appeal to everyone to report violations of taxpayers and non-compliant establishments to authorities so that proper actions could be done based on the provisions of the law," said Geraldino. The source further expressed optimism that Region 6 will go beyond its target on tax collection despite the domino effect of global recession. In fact, Antique has surpassed its target collection this January 2010.

The newly installed regional director, who was previously assigned in Zamboanga said that Region 6 has a potential of high collection performance due to its progressive economy.

"However, we are not only looking into the collection performance of business establishments," said Geraldino. The agency is also watching over the performance of withholding agencies like the local government units and national government agencies to ensure that taxes are collected accordingly.

BIR is also vigorously implementing their regular programs like OPLAN KANDADO for unscrupulous business establishments, Tutok Taxpayers Program among other all geared towards efficient collections of taxes and revenues.

For the upcoming election, BIR will also collect taxes from candidates and its supporters through IBOTO MO program where government will deduct 5% tax for all election campaign materials and propaganda including advertisement. (PIA) [top]
