Cagayan de Oro City (9 February) -- "Daghan na nga health workers ug teachers ang gaduol sa ako kay nasorpresa gyud sila sa mga gabisita sa centers ug sa mga bata nga nagpa-enroll adtong June 2009," (A lot of health workers and teachers came and told me that they were really surprised with the number of mothers who visit the health centers and with the children who were enrolled last June 2009) Haney Mae Raloma, Lopez Jaena, Misamis Occidental Municipal Link happily shared.
Lopez Jaena is one of the two pilot areas of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in Region 10 with already 2,198 registered beneficiaries on December 2009 from 648 beneficiaries in 2007.
According to Raloma, the beneficiaries would always share their experience upon receiving their grants from 4Ps every family session and barangay assemblies and they never fail to mention how they look more closely to their children's health and education which they did not prefer to do before the Program was implemented in the area.
There are 73 clusters in the Municipality which the municipal link and LGU links handle. To effectively manage every parent group, a parent leader is designated by the members. These parent leaders in return, report the updates of their members to the municipal link as well as to the designated LGU links in their area. Some leaders would even take an extra mile in monitoring the compliance of their members to the Program's conditions by personally checking the attendance of the children in school, conversing with the teachers regarding the performance and progress of the children and visiting the health centers to make sure that their members really go for health check-ups, immunizations and pre- and post-natal care.
"Maayo pud ang report sa mga parent leaders sa ako labi na sa kadtong gabisita mismo sa eskwelahan ug health centers. Usahay gani maalaan na sila nga opisyales sa barangay kay dili lang man anak nila ang ilang gabantayan," (The parent leaders have good reports especially those who really visit schools and health centers. There are even times when they are mistaken as barangay officials since they do not only look after their own children) Raloma proudly mentioned.
As Raloma double checked the reports of the leaders by visiting the schools and health centers, the municipal link was very pleased with the positive responses of the teachers and health workers. She even remembered the health workers who proudly say, "Nagbag-o gyud ang mga ginikanan diri sa Lopez Jaena labi na sa gapacheck-up. Makurat lang lagi mi nga maski wala'y gibati muanhi na para magpacheck-up, timbang ug magpa-bp." (The parents here in Lopez Jaena really changed most especially with check-ups. We are really astonished every time we accommodate them because even if they do not feel anything bad, they still come here for check-ups, weighing and check their blood pressure)
Even the teachers in public schools shared that most of their students now come in school in complete and clean uniforms. "The teachers are very glad indeed to see that their students are more eager to go to school since they have with them their packed lunch and complete school items," Raloma relayed.
4Ps targets an improved society through obtaining healthy households and well educated children. The conditional cash grants given to the beneficiaries are not intended to make the beneficiaries dependent on what the government can offer rather, these grants are provided to empower the society and to give them especially the parents the full responsibility to raise good generations.
