4Ps families attend DSWD Anniversary

Davao City (10 February) -- Forty beneficiaries from Cluster 3, Davao City attended the recent 59th DSWD founding anniversary celebration and awarding ceremony at SM City Davao Event Center. The theme for this year's celebration is, "DSWD: Kaagapay at Gabay sa Kinabukasan."
"Nalipay mi nga misalmot niani nga selebrasyon! Kini ang amoang pirmero nga higayon nga naimbitahan sa pag-selebrar sa anibersaryo sa DSWD. Dako usab kaayo amoang pasalamat sa DSWD sa paghatag sa amoa sa 4Ps (We are very happy that we attended this celebration! This is our first time to be invited in DSWD's anniversary celebration. We are also very thankful to DSWD for giving us 4Ps)," exclaimed Pacita Nakilan, Cluster 3 District President.
Davao City has been a 4Ps recipient since October 2008. At present, it has 3,435 total number of beneficiaries in 39 barangays. In its Set 3 of implementation in the region, additional 800 households from Davao City will benefit from the program.
"One frontline program of the department is 4Ps. 4Ps was created to assist the poorest households in the country by giving out conditional cash grants to help improve their children's health, nutrition and education." DSWD Undersecretary Alicia R. Bala, keynote speaker at the awards rites emphasized that, "One of this year's goals is to identify all the poor households nationwide so that they can get the first crack of help from the government,"
Undersecretary Bala also mentioned, "How families are united and reunited and how communities and the Filipino people have been empowered because of DSWD's intervention."
In addition, Gawad sa Paglilingkod sa Sambayanan (GAPAS) Awards were given to individuals, Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), People's Organization (POs) and Local Government Units (LGUs) for their commendable social welfare interventions. The Josefa Jara Martinez Awards were conferred to the Best Social Worker - Ms. Sarah D. Gudes of the Reception, Study and Diagnostic Center (Davao Oriental); Best Municipal Social Welfare Officer ? Ms. Elizabeth D. Uy of Maco, Compostela Valley ; Best Provincial Social Welfare Officer ? Ms. Josephine M. Frasco of Compostela Valley Province ; and Best City Social Welfare Officer ? Ms. Ma. Luisa T. Bermudo of Davao City.
Best LGUs are the Province of Compostela Valley and Davao City ; Best NGO is the Welfare Action Foundation of Davao, Inc.; Best POs were Binuangan SEA-K Association of Maco, Queen of Buhangin SEA Kabayan, Inc. of Buhangin, Davao City and Ms. Febe Lybai A. Matthews of the Tindahan Natin Project Matina, Davao City.
Due credits were also given to Dr. Phillip Lim, Tagum Friends of the Home Foundation, Inc., Ms. Ines Mallari, Youth With a Mission, NCCC Cares, SM City Davao, Atty. Francis A. Calatrava and Sta. Ana Parish.
